I thought the center looked like swarf. I was trying to figure out how you got such a distinctly different look with a brush. Reading tags has its dividends!
Yes, reading tags is a good habit. :) There are 3 other pieces of swarf, but they blend in so well, they are hard to see.
I think I see them, just little narrow streaks of steel.

Hee. In this case, weld spatter. I have a whole lot of it, amazing how beautiful it can be.
