Friday Feathers #25: Thorn-tailed Rayadito

Not my photo. “The” graciously consented to guest photo this Friday Feathers, with this lovely capture of a Thorn-tailed Rayadito (Aphrastura spinicauda), a beautiful and fierce looking little bird.

  1. “Fierce-looking” indeed! It’s funny though, I never saw it that way until I read your description here … but yes, the angle of the “eyebrow”, eye highlight, and spiky tail do give it an angry sort of look. (Which seems a little comical in a bird that probably weighs in at something like 10-11 grams.)

  2. Oh, I don’t know…in my time dinosaur watching, it’s often the little ones who are the most ferocious, and often, downright mean. We have house wrens on property, and gad, nothing wants to tangle with them!
